Author Program and Book Signing
The Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Foundation are sponsoring a book signing and program for families, Thursday, May 15 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Jim Riley, author of a children's picture book entitled The Saving of Dogtown, will read from the book and tell how he came to write it. Don Greenwood, illustrator for the book, will have a drawing project with the children. There will be copies of the book for sale and signing that evening.
Storyteller Dean Allison Presents Program
In celebration of Older American Month, Dean Allison, folk and tale teller, will be at the library, Sunday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m., for a storytelling event. His program, Did You Ever Wonder?, tells how certain spring flowers and birds received their names. No registration required.
Book Discussion Group
The next meeting of the Book Discussion Group is Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. The title for this month is the 2000 Pulitzer Prize nominee A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by David Eggers. There has been some debate on whether the book is fiction or non-fiction. The book is certainly interesting reading, either way. Let's talk about it! Books are now available for check out with a valid library card. Call Adult Services at 334-5279 for more information.
Adult Reading Club to Begin Soon
"Don't Bug Me, I'm Reading" is the theme for the Adult Summer Reading Club which runs Monday, June 2-Thursday, July 31. An information packet should be picked up when you register for the Reading Club, and don't miss the kickoff program "Attracting Butterflies to Your Garden " on Monday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the library meeting area. Donna Aufdenberg of the University Extension Center of Bollinger County will teach you how to create a garden that will attract butterflies and caterpillars.
Butterfly Gardening Program Kicks Off Adult Reading Club
Enjoy an evening learning about butterfly gardening. Donna Aufdenberg of the Missouri Extension Center of Bollinger County, will teach you how to create a garden that will attract butterflies and the caterpillars that will turn into butterflies, and show you the plant species that will help turn your garden into a butterfly haven. Flutter by at 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 2. You can also sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Club, whose theme this year is "Don't Bug Me, I'm Reading".
