LOGON AT LIBRARY & HOME

The library now offers free downloadable videos to cardholders. Click the image above to learn more about this service (if the image does not appear, just click in the space above). Please read the Frequently Asked Questions list first. It has essential information about system requirements and instructions for downloading and installing the MLDV program. You only need to download this once. After that you will use the icon that will be installed on your desktop. To access a specific title, go to the MyLibraryDV icon on your desktop and search for the title by subject. Please call 334-5279 if you have a question.

Learn a Test - You can access the site at the library or from your own computer* (*To access the site at home, you must have a valid library card. Be sure to use your library card number as your user ID the first time that you register.) Then, select and take the test you want. You’ll get immediate scoring and detailed explanations of answers to all. You’ll get recommendations for additional practice and online courses that will help you improve your performance on a subsequent test. Your test results will be stored in your own personalized account, accessible only to you.

Facts on File - The World Almanac Reference Database at Facts.com answers questions from abbreviation to zoos with four years of data from the renowned World Almanac and Book of Facts. It also includes the World Almanac Encyclopedia.You can access this database from home. Use the username CAPE and the password FACTS

Net Library - Now you can read entire books on your computer at home. Just come into the library and set-up a password, then you will have access to 1000's of titles. E-Books are now available to patrons at the Cape Girardeau Public Library! With a "full text" feature, an option to browse a title before checking it out, and 1000's of titles from which to choose, netLibrary represents a new wave in reading.When you access a book through your netLibrary account, you will have the ability to view a book exactly how it appears in its hard copy form complete with pictures and images. E-books check out for 48 hours and the best part... You don't have to worry about dropping the book back off at the library! Look into netLibrary today!

Rosetta Stone - The library offers Rosetta Stone language software for patron use. Rosetta Stone encourages the study of foreign languages. Lessons for 9 different languages are included. Both a visual and auditory program, Rosetta Stone uses real-life images, written text, and voices of native speakers to enhance learning.In 1799, Napoleon's soldiers discovered the actual Rosetta Stone along the Nile River. It proved to be the key to unlocking the mystery of Egyptian hieroglyphics. In 2003, Rosetta Stone software can be the key to releasing the knowledge of a foreign language to users.To use Rosetta Stone, please complete the following steps:
- 1) Download and install the latest Macromedia Shockwave Player from here.
- 2) Return to this page and click here to register. You may choose your own user name and password (they will need to be more than six characters). You will need to register only once, but you will always need to return to this page to login to Rosetta Stone.
- 3) You will need a Cape Girardeau Public Library card and an email address to complete registration. On future visits, you may click on the link below to login to Rosetta Stone.

With options such as photo galleries and fun facts, this database is a colorful and informative resource for children. HeritageQuest Online is an essential collection of unique material for both genealogical hobbyists and professionals, with coverage dating back to the late 1700s. Researchers can use HeritageQuest Online to find their ancestors, trace their paths across America, and learn what life was like in the areas where they settled. HeritageQuest includes more than 20,000 book titles, including nearly 8,000 family histories and over 12,000 local histories, in addition to the more than 250 primary source documents such as tax lists, city directories, probate records, and more. Other resources include, PERSI (Periodical Source Index), The Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files, which identifies more than 80,000 American military, naval, and marine officers and enlisted men.
