It’s a new year, which means we have new award winners! Let’s take a look at these notable books. The American Library Association (ALA) and its divisions annually nominate and distribute these awards.

2022 Newbery Medal winner:

Each state also recognizes its own favorite books, which are nominated and voted upon by librarians and school-aged children. The voting for the current year’s nominees is held in March. The different awards are broken down by age/grade ranges.

Show Me Readers Award (Grades 1-3):
* Picture books, easy to read aloud with strong literary value, with interest and appeal to children 6 to 10 years old.
Mark Twain Readers Awar(Grades 4-6):
* Books should interest children in grades four through six and should be of literary value which may enrich children’s personal lives.
Truman Readers Award (Grades 6-8):
* B
ooks should interest students in their early teen years and should be of literary value and enrich readers’ lives.
Gateway Readers Award (Grades 9-12):
* Books of interest to young adults in grades nine through twelve and appeal to their needs, interests and reading levels.
