What to Do in 2022: Join CGPL in Discovering New Hobbies!
January 19, 2022 – Chely Munoz, Adult Services
The best thing about the new year is that we all get to use it as a cliche excuse to start over. The earth finished its fun little spin around the sun, and now we get to tuck away our old selves; bring out something fresh. And personally, I think one of the most valuable ways to do that is to pick up a new hobby – or perhaps – focus on the one you already have.
I’m personally an advocate for having an abundance of hobbies. We live in a world of creation and consumption, and being a mixture of both is important. We need to entertain and be entertained. So think about the pastimes you already enjoy, and figure out which part you need to focus on. If you’re someone who is always working, more passive hobbies such as reading, watching movies, meditation, or yoga are things you should consider to wind down.
However, if you consider your job a sort of routine task, then active hobbies are what you’re seeking. These are ones where you flip the script and become the creator instead of the consumer. Painting, writing, gardening, learning an instrument, so forth, and so on–any sort of recreational activity where you put something out into the world.
But whatever you do, do both. Focusing too much on one or the other can leave you feeling overworked or discontented. And everyone’s mixture will vary. There is no shame in being a ninety percent passive and ten percent active hobbyist, or the other way around. It’s your life to live and be happy in. Which is the most important part, do things that leave you with a sense of accomplishment in the end. Make little goals along the way, give yourself a checkmark on a journal or a drink at the coffee shop for each one reached.
I’ve fixed together a handy-dandy list for hobbies on either side, so think about what you’ve been wanting to focus on and give a book down here a shot to ring in the New Year!
