A library card is all you need for an epic Family Fun Month!
Wednesday, August 17th – Alli Boyer, Youth Services
Our Summer Reading Program has come to an end, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! In fact, August is Family Fun Month. Here are some ways the library can help you have some family-friendly fun!
Have a Backyard Movie Night: You can borrow a projector and check out some of our DVDs to set up a movie theater in your backyard! Encanto, Luca, and Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse are some of our favorites. To make your movie-going experience even more like a theater, you could offer snacks like popcorn, candy, or some homemade ice cream you made with your kids using our ice cream maker!
Host a Family Concert: Whether or not you are musically inclined, music is a great way to bond with your family! Studies show music gives our brain a little boost to make us happy; increases contact, coordination, and cooperation with others; strengthens empathy; and increases cultural cohesion. Check out some wooden musical instruments or a ukulele from the library to get the music flowing! Or if you’d rather be on the audience side of the concert, simply borrow our portable record player and leave the music to the professionals!
Go Fishing: Some of my fondest memories are of my grandpa and I fishing together. Create some of those memories yourself by checking out a fishing pole and tackle box from the library!
Host a Backyard Game Night: We can help you with all your backyard game needs. Here’s what we offer:
Have a Board Game Night: One of my favorite ways to bond with friends and family is by having a board game night! While some people may prefer competitive games like Monopoly or checkers, I always prefer cooperative games like Mysterium or Oregon Trail. No matter what game you like, we probably have something for you. Check out our board games!
