(Mostly) Not Losing My Mind At Home

April 17, 2020 – Chris Martin, Adult Services

On a normal day at the library, I’m in charge of interlibrary loans and ordering movies, audiobooks, music, and large print books for the library, among many other tasks! These past few weeks have been rather surreal for myself and I’m sure most everyone else who has been quarantined at home.

So, what have I been doing to stay busy?

Well, the first two weeks I was very sick, with what I’m not entirely sure as I didn’t go to the doctor, but luckily I have since fully recovered.  While sick, I rewatched some of my favorite movies of the past few years, including Blade Runner 2049, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Annihilation, all of which are available at the library, when we’re able to reopen!

I have also been playing a lot of video games.  I have primarily been playing the new Animal Crossing game that just came out.  It is a sort of life simulator, as you move onto a deserted island, build a house, catch fish and bugs, and invite villagers to move there with you.  It may sound a bit strange, but it is both relaxing and fun!

While I have not read as much I would like, I have enjoyed checking out several graphic novels that are available on the Libby app.  I highly recommend the Saga series, available both digitally via Libby and in book form (when the library reopens).

I’ve also had the luck to get out and run in a nearby parking lot that has been empty due to the ongoing quarantine.  Nobody else is around, so it is a safe activity that has prevented me from losing my mind (mostly) from being inside all day.

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy, and I look forward to seeing you all whenever the library reopens!
