If you’re making plans for international travel, you can apply for a U. S. Passport at the library. Passport services, including passport photos, are available by appointment Monday through Saturday.
We recommend reviewing the information found here prior to your appointment. To save you time, complete your application online, print it out, and bring it to your appointment. Application forms are also available at the library. Do not sign your application prior to your appointment.
Passport Fees
The U.S. Department of State's fees can be found here. Additionally, you may have a CGPL passport agent take your photo for $10 per person.
New Passports vs. Renewals
Depending on the type of application you are eligible to submit, you may need to bring different documentation with you to your appointment.
If you are applying for your first U.S. passport, you are under age 16, your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16, your previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen, or damaged, or your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago, you must apply in person. Please bring the following with you to your appointment:
- Proof of U. S. citizenship - Original or certified copy of birth certificate, U. S. Passport, or original naturalization certificate. All children under the age of 16 must present their original raised-seal birth certificate. Birth certificates must show the names of both parents.
- Valid driver's license or government ID - The U. S. Department of State will not accept temporary paper licenses. Applicants under the age of 16 must apply in person with both of their parents or with one parent and completed form DS-3053. Applicants who are 16 or 17 must appear with one parent (the parent must also provide valid ID).
- Passport photo - For $10, a CGPL passport agent will take your photo (cash, check, or money order made payable to Cape Girardeau Public Library).
- Payment - Credit and debit cards are not accepted. For fees due to the U.S. Department of State, a check or money order is required. Fees due to the library (required acceptance fee and optional photo fee) may be paid in cash or with an additional check or money order (separate from what is paid to the U.S. Department of State).
If you can answer “YES” to all of the following, you are eligible to renew your passport by mail:
- Do you have your passport in your possession to submit with your application?
- Is your passport undamaged other than normal wear and tear?
- Were you 16 or older when your passport was issued?
- Was your passport issued within the last 15 years?
- Was your passport issued in your current name OR can you document your name change?
While you will ultimately mail in your renewal application yourself, library staff can help you assemble your application and take your photo. If you would like assistance with this process, please make an appointment, and bring the following with you:
- Your most recent U.S. passport book or card
- Certified copies of name change documents (if applicable) - Examples: marriage certificate, divorce decree, court-ordered name change document, etc.
- Passport photo - For $10, a CGPL passport agent will take your photo (cash, check, or money order made payable to Cape Girardeau Public Library).
- Payment - Credit and debit cards are not accepted. A check or money order is required for fees due to the U.S. Department of State. Photo fee due to the library (if applicable) may be paid in cash or with an additional check or money order (separate from what is paid to the U.S. Department of State).
