2024 Horror to Give You the Heebie-Jeebies

Posted on:

It’s that time of year again (my favorite time of the year), spooky scary skeleton season! We are about a week away from Halloween, and you know what that means? It’s time to look back on some of this year's spookiest titles along with those we are still expecting to see and read.  If you are a fan of the horror genre then a LOT of these names will probably be familiar to you. Authors like Stephen Graham Jones (The Only Good Indians 2020), Stephen King (I mean he’s a classic with titles like Carrie 1974, Salem’s Lot 1975), Darcy Coates (The House Next Door), and Paul Tremblay (A  Head Full of Ghosts 2015 and Disappearance at Devil’s Rock 2016). And if you are new to the horror genre or are simply horror curious, welcome! We hope you find some spooky titles to enjoy this season and maybe stick around to see what the rest of the year has to offer in the way of scary stories.

Some of my favorite horror writers haven’t made it to the list this year like Grady Hendrix and Catriona Ward (they just don’t have anything new out) and while that is a bit disappointing, some of my other favorites like Christina Henry and Stephen Graham Jones have. And there are quite a few new-to-me authors and titles that I am really looking forward to reading and reviewing this year.

We have a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get going! Below is a list of everything from January through September that the library currently has. This isn’t a complete list, but I think it is a pretty good overview of the year in horror that we have had so far. I hope you are able to find something interesting and creepy to read this Halloween season!

The House of Last Resort by Christopher Golden
Where You End by Abbott Kahler (leans more to the thriller side)
