Thrills for Your Winter Chills

Posted on:

Hello fellow readers and book lovers! I can’t believe we are nearing the end of 2024 already! My favorite time of year, Halloween, has come and gone. The pumpkin spice latte is on its way out the door and the gingerbread latte is close on its heels ready to take its place as the flavor of the season. And the smell of snow and holiday cheer is starting to fill the air. So, as fall comes to a close and the trees and plants begin to look more dead than alive, I like to lean into the landscape and gray skies that the winter months bring with them. I mean, if I already have the chills, I might as well pick up a thriller or two or three to go along with them, right?

What makes a thriller? If I am being 100% honest, even as a librarian, I get a little confused and mixed up between a mystery and a thriller. Some titles even boast both genre markers, so what’s the real difference between the two?

Simply put, a mystery focuses on something that needs to be solved or answered and a thriller focuses on the protection and wellbeing of the main character. There might be a mystery involved in a thriller, but it takes a back seat to protecting the protagonist and seeing them through to the end. And there might be suspense and thrills in a mystery, but solving the puzzle before the book comes to a close takes top priority.

Still confused? That’s okay! I think with the blending of genres nowadays there is bound to be a little bit of uncertainty involved when it comes to book classification.

Below are some thriller titles I think readers would enjoy! Some are based on popular authors and titles and others are ones I have read and loved myself. Click on the cover to check out more about each book!
